Maxted Home Page: Farewell Modestine : the end of an era, February 2021

It had to happen eventually. After fifteen years of travel accompanied by a band of loyal on-line followers, we have reluctantly decided that the time has come to close this period of our lives. Jill's eye problems, exacerbated by the effects of a year-long period of lockdown have made us realise that we will finally have to dispose of Modestine. We are circulating this blog to our groupies first of all, in case you are interested or know of anyone who might be, before publicising it more widely. We would like her to go to a good home as there are still many miles left in her. We have taken advice from various local dealers and have decided to offer her at a guide price of £4,000, buyer collects.

Registration: R876DWS.
Registration year: 1998. Condition: Used, bodywork in reasonable to good condition internally and externally.
Mileage: 217,871 (25 February 2021).
MOT: expires February 2022.
Service: last service Top Marques February 2020. Cam belt changed: 26 October 2017 (mileage 197,473, replacement due 250,000). Maintenance records and other documentation available.

Modifications: Reversing bleepers, back step.

Extras: Illustrated (left to right) folding table, screen cover, seat covers, bed extension, fourth seat, coffer to replace third seat, porta-potti.

Interior converted into double bed

Minor problems:
Rear access step (added by previous owner) damaged, requires replacement or removal.
Window in rear access door permanently closed following break-in and theft in Spain.
Minor scratches and cracks following encounters with branches and bollards.
Start of rust in wheel arches (advisory in MOT).

A well-used and well-loved vehicle with one previous owner. Acquired by us in 2004 with around 32,000 mileage. Used for extended jouneys throughout Europe and in Morocco and Turkey detailed on our travel blogs. Named Modestine after Robert Louis Stevenson's donkey in his Travels with a donkey in the Cevennes. We are looking for a new owner to drive her the extra 21,000 miles to reach the Moon (average mileage from Earth 238,855). Could it be you? It won't be us, as unfortunately health issues mean we have to sell.
